Great news, folks!
I’m pleased to announce two key cloud milestones that illustrate Teradata’s commitment to data and analytic software and service innovation.
FIRST: Today we went live with Teradata IntelliCloud – our next generation managed cloud offering consisting of best-in-class data and analytic “software as a service” with expanded deployment choice.
You may recall that we announced IntelliCloud would be available in Q1; today we are flipping the switch from
“Almost Ready” to “Open for Business!”
Teradata IntelliCloud is an important, strategic step forward in the ongoing evolution of Teradata in the Cloud.
Coupled with on-premises systems and other Teradata deployment options, IntelliCloud helps enable key “Borderless Analytics” use cases including Cloud Bursting, Cloud Data Lab, and Cloud Disaster Recovery.
Building upon the cloud infrastructure service foundation developed over nearly three years of what was formerly known as Teradata Managed Cloud – including onboarding and provisioning assistance, system monitoring and maintenance, encryption, backups, and more – IntelliCloud consists of the following on a subscription basis:
Expanded deployment choice for IntelliCloud (Teradata Database) now includes:
- Teradata IntelliFlex
- Teradata Appliance
- Amazon Web Services
- Microsoft Azure (coming Q4 2017)
- On-Premises (future, TBD)
Of note, adding IntelliFlex and AWS (and soon Azure) as deployment options is a big deal: now MUCH larger customers can consume Teradata in the cloud – plus companies pursuing an AWS- or Azure-centric IT infrastructure strategy (but who also want those Teradata-supporting public cloud resources managed for them) can have their cake and eat it too.

This is a great accomplishment and further illustrates Teradata’s strong commitment to the Teradata Everywhere strategy: giving customers choice by providing the same, feature-rich software across all deployment options, whether it be managed cloud, public cloud, private cloud, or on-premises.
The virtual machine (VM) configurations for Teradata Database on Azure include:
As with our initial MPP launch of Teradata Database on AWS in September 2016, the upper limit of Teradata Database on Azure initially is 32 nodes, depending on node type (e.g., G5). That ceiling will be raised – and additional functionality added – in the coming months.
These options allow customers to scale in the Azure environment for use cases ranging from POCs to medium Dev/Test or Production
Similar to our other public cloud marketplace offerings
, Teradata recommends that customers engage their account teams to learn more and conduct POCs (proofs of concept) prior to migrating data or analytic workloads to the public cloud.
